Alchemy Records was founded in 1996 by guitarist/composer/producer Jon Durant. Dedicated to creative (mostly) instrumental music the label initially featured several different artists at the vanguard of progressive music, including guitarists Wayne Krantz and Leni Stern, Jeff Richman, and Robby Aceto (who also sings), violinist Caryn Lin, bassists Gary Willis and Michael Manring. Guitarist David Torn was actively involved in many of the early productions. Starting in the early 2000s as the industry went through a major change, and distribution blew up, Durant continues to use the label as a home for his own creative works, both solo and group work. His Burnt Belief collaboration (with Bassist Colin Edwin) have four releases on the label, and the Fractal Sextet collaboration has yielded two releases so far. (The second is on the Rare Noise label.) The newest collaboration is with Colin Edwin and his former Porcupine Tree partner, Chris Maitland.
